Not only because of the demand to follow international as well as the national standard, but above those, it is what our professionals need. Faculty of Medicine, UGM has been developing a comprehensive and systematize Bioethics education since 1994. This experience has brought Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities (CBMH), Faculty of Medicine-UGM as one of the outstanding Bioethics and Medical Humanities institutions in Indonesia. This success has been supported by the excellent collaboration with some other outstanding Bioethics institution abroad. One of the most fruitful collaborations is with the UW at Seattle. The long history of collaboration with the UW at Seattle has brought the enjoyment to share UGM experience with other medical institutions, especially with the medical faculties in Yemen. This workshop is the first step to turn the wheels of Bioethics education in a collaborative format.
Objectives: This article is intended to introduce the collaborative effort on how to boost-up Bioethics education, both in Indonesia and Yemen. This article will give an overview of how the UGM explore and optimize its potential in Bioethics education.
Conclusions: Bioethics education is not complementary to medical education, but it is the soul. UGM’s effort in promoting Bioethics education has been conducted not only at the university level but also at the national government, especially the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Health. This effort had succeeded to reform medical education in general and put Bioethics as the foundation of medical education as stated in the Medical Education Act. This act has brought the consequences to provide experts, laboratories, and standard of education in Bioethics and Medical Humanities. We believe that the same effort can be done by the Yemeni Universities in order to endorse Bioethics and Medical Humanities education.
